Tadhg nodded. "First time leaving home?" When he left his home to go to a Dublin university he had missed his family a lot, especially his father. But he got used to it; it was part of growing up and all that. He wondered how old Zildjain was. Guessing people's ages with any accuracy was not a skill he happened to possess.

"Um...yeah,' She said smiling. Zildjain rubbed her shoulder and looked over at him with a smile. 'But! My brother, Ziek is going to be coming sometime. He's great fun and I can't wait for him to be here.' Zildjain sighed, they were nearing the school now. 'What about you? Have you ever been away from home like this?"

Continuing to nod noncommittally -- a habit he had cultivated over years of being asked if he was still listening -- he tugged at the slipping strap of his bag and watched the sidewalk. The hand dragging his suitcase was starting to feel like an extension of the suitcase rather than an extension of his arm. If he could only switch hands somehow... But that would be much too complicated a maneuver. He would have to switch his bag and cat carrier to the opposite shoulders to free his other hand. Leave it for now, Tadhg, he thought.
The question penetrated his inner rambling and he had to briefly reorient himself before answering. "Not quite like this."
After a moment he seemed to remember that this was not exactly an adequate response for a conversation, and he continued, "I went to UCD -- uhm, University College Dublin, that is -- so I was away from home then. But, yeah. No. I've never been out of the country for as long as this'll be."

"Wow, that must have been exciting.' Zildjain said, looking at the trouble he was having. 'Do you want some help with that stuff? I do have super strenght and would help you." Zildjain smirked at him. She held her hand out in offerance of whatever he would allow her to carry.

"Oh, um, okay." Tadhg slowed to a stop and looked at what he had, trying to decide which thing he was the least loathe to part with. "Thanks... Here." He ended up handing over his suitcase, merely because it was the easiest thing to separate from himself. A stiff claw of what felt like plastic was all that remained of his hand, and he massaged it gingerly, giving Zildjain a grateful half-smile. "Thank you." Then it was back to business. He looked around as if to get his bearings, even though he had no bearings to get. "Are we close now?"

Zildjain smiled and took the suitcase. They began to walk again when he asked if they were close. "Oh, yeah it's just around this corner.' She said, pointing to the nearing corner. After a few steps, the rounded the corner and the school was in right where she said it was. There were a few dorm lights on and Mr. Giles' office light was on. 'Guess, Giles is working late.' she said, softly. 'This way,' she said, leading him up the stairs that went into the building. She opened the door and held it for him to get inside, since he had more things. 'This is it." she said, exasperatedly as the stood in the foyer.

He peered at everything with a keen interest knowing that it was the school, even though he couldn't see much. It was a bit of a surprise to learn that Mr. Giles was still working at this hour, but Tadhg smiled and looked at the window over his shoulder as they passed, thinking of how many times he'd been up all night working for the fun of it.
He shuffled through the door sideways and stood looking around. "Thanks a lot," he said without turning. "I'd probably be wandering around getting mugged by now if I'd been left to my own devices." His mouth twisted a little at his own joke. "Where should I go now, would you say?"
